Big Title Change At WWE NXT Heatwave 2024 - WrestleTalk

NXT held its pay per view Heatwave on Sunday, the ending to a stacked weekend of wrestling. Directly following the aftermath of Money in The Bank, we added to the juicy drama. After 4 championships were successfully defended, the biggest championship of them all changed hands. In a shocking turn of events, Ethan Page is the new NXT Champion. Let’s break down the action from each match.

North American Championship Match

© Oba Femi VS Wes Lee

Result: Oba Femi wins by pin to retain his Title

Oba Femi has it all! The guy has size, charisma, and can go inside the ring. I loved the booking in this match as Femi looked strong without completely killing off Wes Lee. They had a really good opening match. I was a little concerned about how the different styles would compliment eachother but the David VS Goliath style match fit perfectly. There’s been rumblings on X teasing a match between Moose and Oba Femi. Book it WWE!

Women’s North American Championship Match

© Kelani Jordan VS Sol Ruca

Result: Kelani Jordan wins by pin

I was really impressed with both these ladies in this match. They battled, and both got off some really clean offense. Sol is a future star in the company. She has the looks and the ability. Jordan has really settled into her own with this championship. This was the perfect start to the titles pay per view history. Both ladies rose to the occasion, and this NXT women’s roster is full of talent right now.

Match Grade: A-

NXT Tag Team Championship Match

© Nathan Frazer & Axiom VS Chase U

Result: Frazer & Axiom win by pin to retain

I was a little disappointed in the match. I thought Chase U should have won the titles but I’m not the one who makes the matches. I haven’t bought into Axiom and Frazer yet as a team. They have solid ability but there’s nothing really that makes me want more of them. Between the Family, The OC, and now New Catch Republic. There are other teams on NXT that I enjoy watching more than them. Not a terrible wrestling match, it just didn’t do it for me.

Grade: C

NXT Women’s Championship

© Roxanne Perez VS Lola Vice

Result: Roxanne Perez wins by pin to retain

Despite losing this match, this was really good exposure for Lola Vice to walk through the process of being in a main event title feud. She cut her first promo, and wrestled a top star on the brand in a big spot. It was pretty good for how new she is. The promo needs work but I felt like she’s a natural in the ring. It just goes to show you how great Roxanne Perez is. She carried herself like a veteran heel this entire feud so far, and she was so good in this match. Perez is starting to make me see what Michaels and Triple H see in her. Both ladies have a bright future with the company. Roxanne is there and probably could be a star on the main roster right now. This time next year, I’m thinking we’ll see an improved version of Vice.

Match Grade: B+

NXT Championship Match

© Trick Williams VS Ethan Page VS Shawn Spears VS Je’Von Evans

Result: Ethan Page pins Je’Von Evans to win the NXT Championship

I don’t know how much I love the decision to take the belt off Trick Williams and put it on Ethan Page who’s lost some key matches the past couple of months. This felt more like a message to underutilized AEW stars to say “there is room on NXT for you.” Page and Spears have been featured in a big way immediately upon their arrival in WWE, and Page has had some harsh criticism for his former company. You also do Page no favors with how this match ended. A high knee knocked out Page who fell on Evans to cover him for the pin. He won the championship without really doing anything. Trick Williams wasn’t doing a terrible job as champion, and he was over with the fans. Hopefully this plays into a longer storyline with him getting the belt back.

Match Grade: C+
