Classic Wrestling Card: TNA No Surrender 2022

 Written By: Danny Albers

The 14th event of the No Surrender chronology kicked off from the Alario Center in Westwego, Louisiana. The card was stacked with established TNA talents and you upstarts looking to make a name for themselves. Mickie James defended her knockouts championship just months after competing in WWE Royal Rumble. Let’s take a look at each match and Break Down what happened.

  1. Four-Way Match to determine the number 1 contender for the X-Division Title: Jake Something VS Ace Austin VS Chris Bey VS Mike Bailey

Result: Jake Something wins by pin to become # 1 contender to the X-Division Title

Per usual, the X-Division match of the night provided some fast paced action. The hard hitting strikes of Mike Bailey took on the powerhouse Jake Something. A pivotal part of the match was the two future Bullet Club members that would reign as TNA Tag Team Champions as ABC. Ace Austin and Chris Bey both provided the high flying speed that one sees in the X-Division. The match didn’t drag on, we got our high spots, and Jake Something's power proved too much for his opponents as he picked up the win.

  1. Jonah VS Black Taurus (w/ Crazzy Steve)

Result: Jonah wins by pin

Fans of WWE will recognize Jonah as “Big” Bronson Reed. Before his tenure with WWE, he wrestled as Jonah in TNA. He found himself in the interest of Crazzt Steve, TNA’s resident creep. But instead of Crazzy Steve, former AAA competitor and current AEW/ROH wrestler Black Taurus was his opponent. Taurus, a strong and explosive wrestler, matched up well with Jonah in this battle of big men. They’d have some time to work, 8:08 to be exact. It wasn’t a five star match, but some of the displays of power by Jonah was entertaining.

  1. Jay White VS Eric Young

Result: Jay White wins by pin

Jay White’s involvement in TNA brought The Bullet Club to TNA. On January 27th, Jay White brought the Guerrillas of Destiny with him. Typical Bullet Club nonsense took place, causing Eric Young, the resident locker room leader of TNA to stand up to Jay White at the pay per view. White and EY would provide us with a dream match of sorts, with a couple stiff moves performed by White onto Young. The Switchblade finish in the end saw White slamming Young on his head. I was a little let down with the match, as it was a little slow and uneventful. Both men looked like they didn’t know how to work with each other. It was cool to see both men grace the ring together.

  1. ROH Women’s World Championship Match: © Deona Purrazzo VS Miranda Alize

Result: Deonna Purrazzo wins by submission

I didn’t love Purrazzo wrestling on this card. Purrazzo looked great, and stole some of the thunder from Mickie. Purrazzo only needed about 7 minutes to take out Miranda Alize. Alize, a Mexican Luchador, who’s wrestled on and off for some top promotions like AEW and TNA, did a good job selling and putting Purrazzo over in this one.

  1. Impact Digital Media Championship Match: © Matt Cardona VS Jordynne Grace

Result: Matt Cardona wins by pin

Grace held her own in this match. Typically, intergender matches are kind of lame. But Grace isn’t your average knockout. And Cardona has done nothing but proved just how good of a worker he is since becoming “The King of the Indies.” With Grace's power, everything she did in the ring was believable. As much as I love Grace, I’m glad Cardona picked up the win. A loss to Grace would kill any momentum Cardona had built.

  1. Impact World Tag Team Championship Match: © The Good Brothers (Gallows & Anderson) VS Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa)

Result: The Good Brothers win by pin to retain

One of my favorite tag team feuds outside of the WWE. These 4 competitors are legendary in the history of Japan and the Bullet Club, and they beat the hell out of each other in this match. The drama didn’t stop there, as Chris Bey would get involved to cost G.O.D the match. This would lead to the Bullet Club leader Jay White to come out, and turn on G.O.D. This got a big pop from the crowd, and set up a future feud for G.O.D. and Jay White and the Bullet Club.

  1. Knockouts World Title Match: © Mickie James VS Tasha Steelz (W/ Savannah)

Result: Mickie James wins by pin to retain

Tasha Steelz still has a long way to go, but I think this is really good exposure for her to wrestle a pro like James. James has gotten better as she’s aged. This match wasn’t far removed from James appearing in the WWE Royal Rumble with the Knockouts Championship. Steelz athleticism is there, but she still has trouble finding a solid rhythm and slowing the match down so she gives fans a chance to follow the action. I still thought it was a good match, even though Deonna Purrazzo looked way more like a champion a couple matches before this one.

  1. Impact World Championship Match: © Moose VS W. Morrissey

Result: Moose wins by pin to retain the Impact World Title

W. Morrisey’s return to professional wrestling has been a journey, but this is Moose’s show. Moose has risen to every main event that the company has called for him to wrestle on, and this was no exception. The most impressive thing about Moose is his ability to still look so powerful and dominant in there with powerhouse competitors like Morrissey.

  1. 10-man tag team match: Honor No More (Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, PCO, Vincent, and Kenny King w/ Maria Kanellis-Bennett) VS Team Impact (Chris Sabin, Rhino, Rich Swann, Steve Maclin, Willie Mack)

Impact Wrestling No Surrender 2022 ...

Result: Honor No More wins by pin

Ring of Honor clashed with Impact with some of the top wrestlers in the history of both brands doing battle. Eddie Edwards was the heart and soul of Team Impact, and he turned on his brethren to join his friends from Ring of Honor. This betrayal ended a back and forth battle and got Honor No More the win. It was a good mix of hardcore, PCO took some crazy bumps in this match, and anytime you have Rhino in there something extreme is going to happen. The Kingdom’s Matt Taven, Vincent, and Mike Bennett seemed to have their hooks on TNA.

Final Word

Some really good talent from multiple shows were featured on this card. They moved through the card pretty quickly, and spent nearly 25 minutes on the main event. I thought there were bigger moments on this card than the Honor No More VS Team Impact. The tag match with the Bullet Club turning on G.O.D. or Moose defending his world title were all better and bigger moments than the main event. WWE, AEW, TNA, and NJPW were represented on this card tonight and that’s pretty cool. Other than that, the action on this card is underwhelming.
